Ever have one of those weeks where creative therapy is a must? I had one of those weeks where it wasn’t necessarily a bad week it was just hectic and busy. I was feeling worn out and just needed to take some time and be creative. One technique that really helps me to unwind and relax is watercolor backgrounds. This technique is so great because there are no images to paint. The technique is all about creating backgrounds with ink and water. All you have to do is apply water, dab some ink and let the magic happen. For me it is so fun to just play. You can make a bunch, let them dry and then use them later for backgrounds on cards or really almost any paper crafting project.
A tip when creating watercolor back grounds; let go of trying to control the ink and water. Just let things flow and do their thing. Allow yourself to play and discover. If you don’t like how it looks, wait. Wait till it dries. It may not look great when wet but almost every time the messier it looks wet the better it will look dry. Play around with how you make the background. Try using various supplies and find what works the best for you. Me personally, getting the entire paper wet and then dabbing it with ink and a paintbrush works for me. Some crafters like to wet the paper with water and then use a spritzer to add the color. One thing I caution you about is try to not over work the ink. If over work the ink you most likely will end up with a background that is one solid color and not a colorful background.
Another tip is to make sure you use watercolor paper as you need something that can hold up when using a lot of water. If you try to use regular white card stock or shimmery white paper it can’t take all that moisture and will buckle and warp.
