I have another One Sketch..Three Ways post for you today. These posts are fun for me because I like the challenge of starting with one layout and seeing how I can adapt it to various images, colors, and supplies.
My inspiration for this sketch was taken from a card I made from the Simply Citrus stampin’ kit. I recommend choosing a layout that is fairly simple; just maybe 3-4 layers of paper and one or two accents or embellishments.
After I chose my starting layout, I cruised through my arsenal and picked out some stamp sets that I would like to play around with. I didn’t know if I would end up using them all and that’s ok. The stamp sets I did end up using were: The Most Wonderful Time, Snow Wonder, and Life is Beautiful.
One thing you may consider if you struggle with picking card layouts is to have on hand a few layouts that have worked well for you in the past, or ones that you really love to make, and keep a record of the measurements somewhere. Then all you have to do is refer back to those measurements and it can save a lot of time during your creating process. When the layout and the measurements are all resolved then you can get right to the fun part which, for me anyways, is the stamping and making the card. An example of this is the mini photo albums I like to make as gifts. I have all the measurements , notes, and tips saved together for making my favorite albums. When I want to make an album I just follow my prewritten notes, the album goes together quickly, and I can enjoy creating another fun mini album for someone.
I recently did a live stream showing how I put these cards together. You can find that video here.
Here are the card measurements in case you would like to give this sketch a try.
Card base: (5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″) or (4 1/4″ x 11″)
DSP: (4 1/2″ x 5 1/2″)
(Accent piece #1 – this is the piece with all the lemons on it in the sample) – approx. (3 3/4″ x 2 1/2″) You can of course play around with this a bit. Especially if you are going to use a die cut. Use this measurement as a guideline rather than a rule.
Greeting piece: approx. (2 7/8″ x 1″) Again this is just a guideline. There are lots of punches and dies that are close enough to this size. Plus it may need to be adjusted to fit the greeting you would like to use.
A ribbon, string, sequins….well that’s up to you and what you have on hand…play around and see what looks good to you.
