Day 6: World Watercolor Month Card
Today the prompt was young. I have a couple of kid birthdays this month so thought I would do a couple of cards for them using the watercolor technique. I first went to my Search Find Create app and did a few different searches. I decided to look up monster and this set was one of the sets to come up. I had forgotten I had this set…good thing I have the app to track my stamps!
I first stamped the smaller monster on some post it removable labeling tape twice to create two masks. This allowed me to stamp the monster several times and make it look like they were behind each other. To learn more about masking click here. I like using the post it tape as it is sticky all over the back and not just in one section like a post it note.
After I stamped the images with Stazon and gave them a second or two to dry, I used my re-inkers and a paint brush to color the monsters in. I will admit it got scary for a bit as I didn’t think the water coloring was looking that great. But I just kept at it and I really like the finished result. I found from experience this is often the case; water coloring is a forgiving craft. I encourage you to keep working with it, even walk away and come back. You will probably find it works out more often than not.
After all the monsters were painted, I used a marker to get into the super tiny areas where my paint brush was too big to color. Once all that was done, I used a white gel pen to add some accents to the monsters. I colored in the little areas that the artist had put there already. There were little blobs or oval areas and of course their teeth.
Let’s be honest this card was screaming for googly eyes. How can it not Googly eyes always make me giggle and I hope recipient giggles too.
I would change a few things looking back. I would add more blue to the background and instead of shimmer paper I would go back to watercolor paper, however, time was running short so I didn’t get a chance to do that. This challenge of doing something everyday with watercolor has been really good for me and I hope I can keep this going. What could you do with this technique?
